15 May Should I buy my wedding dress online?
We have all been there. You don’t have time to get to the shops before a big event, so you quickly jump online and purchase an outfit which will be delivered to your door in a matter of days, or sometimes even in a matter of hours.
When it arrives it is just like the image you saw on your computer, but as you try it on, the cut doesn’t fit perfectly to your shape. You wear it anyway, and midway through the big event, you loose a button, your zipper breaks, or you get so sick of readjusting yourself, you just call it a night.
Can you imagine doing that on your wedding day?
Whilst not everything you purchase online will be this memorable, buying your wedding dress online can be fraught with dramas.
There are so many horror stories about scams and lost money over purchasing wedding dresses online, as you just don’t know who you are dealing with on the other end. We have had clients come into our boutique, explaining that their first attempt to procure a dress from a designer overseas ended up in being ripped off thousands of dollars by either not ever receiving the gown as promised, or what arrived was nothing like had been advertised.
In order to make these cheap wedding dresses, the manufacturers will have to cut costs somewhere. Usually you will see this occur in either the material, or in labour. Some manufacturers have even been known to use child labour.
When you buy from a bridal shop, you can be assured that what you see is what you get. You can check out the quality, colour, cut, crystals and fabric for yourself.
Bridal store assistants are there to look after you. They are experts in helping you find a gown that compliments your size, shape and colouring. And don’t worry if the gown you love does not fit you perfectly, or if you are in-between sizes. Reputable boutiques will be able to tailor your gown to fit you properly, right up to your wedding day.
Unlike badly cut internet-bought wedding dresses – no degree of alterations will be able to make a bad cut sit and drape as it should.
If you are looking for a designer gown, but can not afford the price tag, ask your bridal store if they have a discontinued rack. Your perfect wedding dress could be available for 50% off or more, and it never hurts to check. This way you know you are still getting the quality you deserve, and not causing yourself a heart attack at the price.
Be sure to look out for store sales, as you could also save yourself some money. With Facebook, Pinterest, bridal blogs and magazines, there is so much opportunity to be able to find the dress you want at a price you can afford.
So allow yourself the privilege of feeling like a princess for a day.
