26 May Behind the scenes at Vision In White – Spotlight On… Joan
Joan started as a bridal consultant before I was out of school, and except for taking time off to be a mum to her four children, Joan’s name has been synonymous with bridal since the 1960’s. There is very little Joan has not seen in bridal fashion, and she has occasionally joked that if you stand still long enough you may see it come back again.
Fortunately Joan is not known for standing still! She has managed 2 knee replacements and can still run the younger team members ragged. Joan is an absolute encyclopaedia of bridal knowledge, from suggesting what style might suit a bride to suggesting quirky but clever additions and alterations to make a gown individual and unique for her customer.
Vision in White occasionally host trunk shows to the bush and Joan has always been the first to put her hand up. I have to tell you these trips are not for the faint hearted, we hire a truck – fill it with bridal and head west! It is sort of like a Thelma & Louise road trip without the nasty end. But then again if anyone has seen me driving a truck they might reconsider. These trips are exhausting, fun, we get to meet lots of lovely country brides – and Joan is always in the thick of it!
Along with Joan’s awesome knowledge of bridal she is our keeper of special times. Joan will always remember thebirthdays of our team, our children and even anniversary’s.
In 2014 when we celebrated the 10-year anniversary of my directorship of Vision in White & Formal Image, Joan put together the most amazing album of photos and mementos that I will treasure always.
Whilst it is a keepsake of my time with these amazing women – it will become an heirloom for my family to treasure. In this way, Joan has become a wonderful part of my own family history.
